Heather Perry - Handcrafted fine jewelry
Heather Perry Fine Jewelry
490 US Route 1
Robbinston, Maine 04671
207/454-7452::moonbeam9@hotmail.com

www.heatherperryfinejewelry.com

I view the design and creation of fine jewelry as an extension of fine art. With this in mind, I combine elements of sculpture based on form, texture and line, with the scale, wearablity and beauty of fine jewelry. I watch trends in lifestyle, adapting them into realistic and functional pieces of art that are crafted to be worn with ease and comfort, as well as to enhance the innate beauty and individual style of the wearer. Inspired by the essence of the natural world, I design jewelry to reflect the tension between man and nature, between the formal and the informal. Bonding these opposing forces is as important to my work as celebrating our own natural beauty and grace.

http://www.fireballbeeds.com

I have been a full time glass artist since the late 80’s. In the last 20 years, my work has evolved from huge windows and fused pieces to tiny little beads which I call Fireballs because they look like little balls of fire as they are being made. I turn most of my flameworked glass beads into one of a kind jewellery pieces, which can be found in a number of East Coast galleries.

Dennis Corso - Direct carving stone sculptor

My approach to stone sculpting is simple, I carve directly into the stone, working without sketches or clay models. I consider myself an Abstract Impressionist with a twist. My sculptures are my impressions of what the stone can tell us about the abstract. I leave it to others to determine if I have interpreted correctly what the stone has to tell us.

My father was a gifted artist and cartoonist, and worked in many mediums; copper enamel, wood carving, oils, pen and ink, silver, leather carving and caricatures. His mother was born and raised on Deer Island and he inherited a one-room school house and would pack us up, when summer school break allowed him to escape the California heat and make the yearly pilgrimage from one coast to another. He left me all his palette knives and vast collection of brushes, as well as a summer cottage, his love for this Island and the waters that surround it. I moved here in 1992, married my childhood sweetheart and I do love it, even if I complain about the snowdays.

I like color...anywhere I see it...colorful personalities, colorful people. Look at the natural world...I choose to see the color in it and that is what I paint - even if itís not there. Itís in my mind. I want to share that way of seeing the world. I want to paint something that keeps me wanting to come back to see what else I can discover in the painting. In pottery color is very important to me--I love those Chinese glazes. The form and the utility of the pot are also vital components of what I do. I've been lucky enough to find the freedom that can come with working with paints and clays- my teachers have made sure of that. To sum it all up--I just like working with my hands.

Lissa EuDaly - Ceramics
Corner of High Street & South Street
Eastport, Maine 04631
207/853-4675::lissa@sandmonk.com

During the art tour Lissa will be a guest artist at the Lindy Mac Studio in Eastport.

I love the solitary nature of working with just clay, water, and my own thoughts. I believe pottery is a small part skill and imagination, and a great deal of mystery and magic. Humidity, ambient temperature, my state of mind, how I stack the pots in the kiln, the music I play while throwing, each of these things influence the final piece. The ultimate expression of each pot is the result of the alchemy that takes place from the moment I take clay from the bag, until the finished pot comes out of the firing process and cools. I care most about how a pot feels in my hand - whether it begs to be picked up and used. My goal as a potter is to create beloved pots that are still used long after the insides are stained and the rims are chipped.

Eastport, Maine 04631
207/853-0909::windigo2@verizon.net

You've all heard of taking the road less traveled. Well I have taken the road through the wilderness that no one else has traveled. Along the way I made many inadvertent discoveries. I believe that the motion I see in all living things--that which animates and forms a telling gesture--equates with Emotion. I see an Emotion that lifts, moves and elates, and it is this Emotion that is at the center of who and what we are--a dynamic part of the human spirit and of all that really matters. It makes the world beautiful and it makes us happy.

Lindy McClellan - Glass and silver
Lindy Mac Studio
44 High Street
Eastport, Maine 04631
207/853-2742::lindywear@hotmail.com

I am fascinated with the idea that with a rod of glass and a flame, beautiful things can be created. I am inspired by color and the emotional response it can provoke. The endless combination of color, shape, and texture create pattern and movement and allows each bead to become a small piece of art. I combine these beads with handcrafted silver elements and other found pieces to create one of a kind and limited edition jewelry. Some invite emotional response and some tell a story. My hope is that these pieces and their stories become treasures to those who wear them.

"I posit my work as a joyous contradiction to the appearance of the universe as ruled by the sentiments of chance and meaninglessness--a decidedly pagan thrust to render the world intelligible by animating the inanimate; attempting an equilibrium between inner and outer reality and assuming meaning in the face of the apparent problematic and the great imponderable." To gain a more intimate and accurate appreciation of the actual colors and tactile qualities of the objects, you are invited to visit D.J. Sutherland at his studio located in the coastal fishing village of Eastport, Maine, overlooking Campobello and the Fundy Isles of Canada.

Creating traditional beaded items: barrettes, earrings, necklaces, head bands and more, Viola also designs shawls, makes handdrums, regalias and beaded floral vases. She has been beading since youth. Her interest in traditional Passamaquoddy arts led to her becoming an apprentice with tribal traditional artists Clara Keezer (a National Endowment for the Arts, National Heritage Fellowships awardee) learning basketry and with Frances "Gal" Frey.

"I have learned more than the art of basketry from my mentors, Gal and Clara, I learned more about my culture and our Passamaquoddy ways. It was wonderful experience to learn from these two great women." Viola’s love of both art forms has led her to a unique style creating ash and sweet grass baskets combined with beaded embellishments. In addition, she has utilized the beadwork process in group work with teenagers, elders and special needs populations, as a way to assist healing and communicating.

I work on an intimate scale, making small sculptural forms and reliefs mostly in metal. I draw inspiration from several facets of our culture (currently, the fisheries in the Bay of Fundy) taking shapes and colours out of their usual contexts and then using them as my building blocks to make objects from unexpected materials. I hope these juxtapositions will entice viewers to come very close to the work and perhaps to perceive relationships in what at first might seem like contradictions. I exhibit metal and textile works internationally and have received numerous awards both in the US and in Canada.

Maureen McIlwain - Traditional rughooking, with wool fabric and yarn on burlap or linen

I enjoy the infinite play of colours and textures and working with wool fabric and yarn to create expressions of life & nature in all its many moods. Loops are what makes a rughooked mat — a simple stitch, making the craft an easy one to learn, yet giving an astonishing breadth of expression and individuality to each design. An infinite palette is possible through dyeing wools.

The Quoddy Loopers meet every Wednesday, 6:30 to 8:30pm, at the Catholic Church of St Andrew parish hall, winter and summer, unless a rare scheduling conflict arises.

During the art tour June will be a guest artist at Bertha Day Art and Craft Gallery in St Andrews.

I am a Fibre Artist with a passion for felt and recycling. I feel that I am now into the F.U.N. Factor (frivolity and uninhibited nonsense).

Anne Hill - Watercolour
Hill Studio
613 Mascarene Rd
Mascarene, New Brunswick E5C 2S3
506/755-4283::anne.hill@gnb.ca

Anne Hill enjoys painting mostly out of doors along the shores of Charlotte County, NB. Her love of the natural world shines out from her watercolors. Her work is on display in a cottage next to her home, over looking a magnificent view of the Maguadavic River and Passamaquoddy Bay. Inspired by this scenery she paints colorful landscapes, flowers and the ocean.

Sara Sparks - Oil paintings on canvas
Gillmor's Coach House
17 Clinch Street
St. George, New Brunswick E5C 3S9

I have a deep kinship with animals and endeavor to capture an element of their own sense of self, or response to their environment. I also have a love of detail and realism, so in my work I try to be as accurate in their portrayal as possible. Often the subject matter holds an emotional component with the animal being a symbol of something--freedom, isolation, or even humor.

Morag Walsh - Watercolour paintings
Braeside Studio
549 Route 778 (Main Street)
Beaver Harbour, New Brunswick E5H 1M6
506/456-3829::walshw@nbnet.nb.ca

Morag feels inspired by nature and expresses that beautifully in her watercolours of local landscapes and seascapes, as well as her still life subjects. Her work is full of light and life and reflects the ever-changing moods of the bay.
